Raised loops or a flatter weave?
Boucle has a rounded, nubbly surface that reads softly beside a smooth sofa. Flatwoven cotton sits lower to the floor and is easier to move when you rearrange a room. Neither choice removes the need for gentle cleaning.
Natural jute is firmer and more irregular than cotton. Keep it in a dry interior and expect visible fibre character rather than a plush finish.

Low jute pouffe
60 × 40 cm footprint, 28 cm high. More floor area and a lower top suit a low sofa; the jute surface is firmer underfoot.
Angle or Drift rug
160 × 230 cm. Tape out both sides and check how far sofa legs sit on the rug. Angle is 7 mm low pile; Drift has a deeper 14 mm pile.

How should I clean a pouffe?
Vacuum gently with an upholstery attachment and blot spills immediately. Do not soak or remove the cover; consult a specialist for persistent marks.
Does a rug need underlay?
Yes, choose a separate non-slip underlay compatible with your floor. It helps reduce movement but does not make a rug hazard-free. Check edges and doors regularly.
What is different about wool and jute?
Wool-blend tufting has more pile and may shed loose fibres initially. Jute is drier and firmer; avoid damp rooms and wet cleaning. Rotate both to distribute wear.
Can I use a pouffe as a step?
No. These are floor-level footrests or occasional perches, not steps, climbing aids or children’s play equipment. Keep them away from heat sources.
